xClicks under counting hits

Hi,

I've noticed xClicks has been under counting on my website. I believe this behavior has started only a couple of weeks ago because I haven't noticed it before.

I'm getting differences of around 2k to 3k hits counted less by xClicks on every 10k hits compared with what my partners say they send and to what my stats say I get.

Can there be anything on my website causing this or did xClicks changed the way it's counting?

Thanks!

Hi,
Xclicks didn't change anything in the way of counting. However xclicks is a remote counter triggered by a javascript so in order to count that hit its need to have that request.

Now if site A (your trading partner) record an out click that doesn't necessary means it will went through all the way to your site. This will happen if that request was from a bot, the user closed the window right away or there is another script loading slow before xclicks script.
Usually xclicks apply some filtering rules (better safe then sorry) so not all incoming is recorded and because these rules are for all incoming will have no impact on outgoing.
However if u do not have another remote js before xclicks filtering + normal bots would not count for more then 5% to max 10% of the incoming. From what you are saying I would suspect your partner trade site has a cheater with a hitbot.

Thanks for the reply!

This is happening with pretty much all of my trades so, without being 100% sure, I would put bots aside for now.

Xclicks isn't the first script to load ATM but what's loading before it is internal javascript, things like jquery and a js to allow bookmarking but I'll update this to make it the first thing to load and I'll wait 48 hours or so and report here again.

Thanks again
